Only a decade left for the world to get climate change under control, U.N. scientists say

Accomplishing what seems to be impossible at first seems to have become the modus operandi for mankind as a species, but the latest report on how far off we are from our objective of being able to control climate change flushes that modus down the commodus. As we were too busy to pat ourselves on the back for having figured out revolutionary means of generating energy, it is now that we realize that it's a little too late for us to do anything about it. With global emissions showing barely any decrease (Germany alone can only do so much) and USA - the second largest contributor for CO2 emissions - doing away with the Obama-era countermeasures, the goals of the 2015 Paris accord seem to be waiting for us on the other side of the Styx; only, we don’t have the coins to bribe Charon.

The report published by the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change indicates that severely drastic measures and that, naturally, there is ‘no historical precedent’ for the level of changes that we have to bring about. Critical decisions and steps have to be taken by the entire global population as a whole if we are to overcome this seemingly impossible task; since these changes will affect any & all facets of everyday including energy needs & transportation. The graph of the current annual emission of CO2 (which is 40 billion tons per year) would have to undergo a radical reversal by 2030  if the earth’s surface temperature is to be maintained at 1.5°C. By 2050, no more coal. Renewable energy has to move up to 50 or 60% of total energy usage in a decade, instead of the measly 24% now.
Now, even though the message that the IPCC wants to relay is an urgent one, their reports are products of meticulous negotiations with governments on precise wording. It's like a supporting character in a movie quietly declaring that they got shot; it’s a serious issue with negative consequences, but they won’t scream about it.

Since we don’t have a way of decreasing emissions yet, IPCC mentions development of large scale ‘negative emission’ strategies which will enable us to get rid of the emissions instead of slowing them down. The World Coal Association along with the Environmental Protection Agency have stated that emissions should be the main focus of the initiative to curb climate change instead of fuel (plot convenience?), as they continue their efforts towards carbon capture & storage (CCS) and other clean technology (to be shared and exported when fully developed, of course.)

Even though we stand on the brink of failure, the report is reassuring in a  twisted way; signifying that the goal is still reachable. But unless there is complete unification between all aspects of the global citizens alive today, all the reports in the world will not be able to stop what’s coming.
